Novah / A clean exit

Move-out cleaning checklist. A calmer way to hand over.

Boxes everywhere. Keys somewhere. One last clean before you go. Let’s turn the final day into a clear little plan, with the fiddly jobs linked exactly where you need them.

A little plan for your last day here.

A clean exit

Pack first. Clean in order. Finish with a walk-through.

Get your own handover list and key deadline, start cupboards and freezer thawing while you pack, then clean the emptied kitchen, bathroom and rooms. Floors go last. This hub keeps your progress in one place and sends you to a focused guide when a job needs more than a quick wipe.

01 / The steps

A little order goes a long way.

Finish accessible surfaces before the floors. Get the long-wait jobs started early.

  1. While you pack

Confirm the key deadline, collect your landlord’s handover list and wipe cupboards as they empty. Make a plan for frozen food and freezer thawing. Keep the last cleaning kit out of the moving boxes.

  2. Once the boxes leave

Work through kitchen storage and appliances, then the bathroom and the rest of the rooms. Let an oven soak or a fridge shelf dry while you do another compatible job. Take a proper break; exhausted scrubbing is rarely elegant.

  3. When the dirty work is done

Check required windows and extra spaces, keeping weather and safe access in mind. Then finish the floors and entrance, working towards the door. Let everything dry before the last inspection lap.

  4. Before the keys leave your hand

Open the cupboards again, review inspection requests, document the condition and report anything unresolved. Return all required keys as agreed. Your checklist gets its final ticks; you get your next chapter.

A useful starting order. Other required jobs still need doing.

Kitchen

Open the cupboards. The crumbs have nowhere left to hide.

0 of 9 done
  • Work from the top down. Remove crumbs, wipe shelves, doors and handles, then leave the inside dry. Do each cupboard as you pack it instead of saving the whole kitchen for the final hour.

  • Empty rubbish and recycling, wipe the lids and handles and clean the cupboard floor. Put dry bins back. A fresh liner is optional; old food at the bottom is not the welcome gift we are aiming for.

  • Wipe the cleared surfaces, remove grease and rinse away cleaner. Dry the sink and tap. The steel-sink guide gives the plain-steel method; use a different method for a stone or coated finish.

  • Let the hob cool, lift loose food and wipe the cooking surface, knobs and handles. Use the induction guide for a glass induction hob. Leave heavy or connected appliances in place unless safe movement has been arranged.

  • Start the oven job early, once it is off and cool. The detailed guide helps you choose the right route for an enamel, catalytic or self-cleaning oven. Check the racks, trays and lower drawer too. Wipe the exterior after the inside is done.

  • Take food out, wash removable parts and wipe shelves, seals and accessible corners. Dry before reassembly. Your housing provider decides whether it stays on or is left off with the door open after handover.

  • Plan thawing before the moving van arrives. Protect the floor and collect meltwater using the freezer guide. Do not chip ice with a knife. Defrosting has its own waiting time, so it should not be the surprise job at key return.

  • Wipe the hood, then use the filter guide for the removable grease filter. A carbon filter is a different part. Keep a cleaned grease filter fully dry before refitting, and keep this task separate from any cleaning-service scope.

  • If required for your home

Wash the cool glass plate, wipe the cavity and finish the door edges. If it is your own appliance and leaves with you, clean it for your next kitchen instead; mark it not applicable to this handover.

Bathroom & WC

Fixtures first, floor last. Give the drain its own minute.

0 of 6 done
  • Work through the seat, hinges, outside and base as well as the bowl. Keep the toilet cloth separate from both the kitchen and basin cloths. Leave the brush and its holder clean too if they stay in the home.

  • Empty the cabinet and clean inside and out. Wipe the basin edges and underside where accessible, rinse away cleaner and dry the tap and mirror. Check the toothbrush-cup corner; tiny things are surprisingly committed to leaving a mark.

  • Remove soap residue and suitable surface deposits, rinse and dry. The shower-glass guide covers the glass method. Keep strong acid off stone, grout and coated fittings unless permitted for that actual surface.

  • Work in small sections and remove the cleaner. Use the grout guide for ordinary surface dirt. Report leaks, damaged seals or unusual persistent staining rather than trying to hide them with more scrubbing.

  • Lift out the permitted accessible parts, remove hair and rinse using the drain guide. Refit correctly. If a part is stuck or the drain is blocked, arrange maintenance; cleaning the visible parts is not a plumbing repair.

  • Leave this until fixtures and shelves are done. Collect loose dirt, clean the floor with a suitable method and remove leftover water. Check the corners around the toilet and behind safely reachable fittings.

Rooms & floors

The room is empty. Suddenly the skirting boards are very visible.

0 of 4 done
  • Open every door and drawer. Remove dust from shelves, handles and reachable tops. Check the high shelf for the box you absolutely meant to collect last week.

  • Work from upper reachable surfaces down. Dust radiators and wipe handles and door frames. Use a well-wrung cloth near switches; keep liquid out of electrical fittings.

  • Try gentle cleaning only where the paint permits it. A worn finish and a dirty patch are different things. Do not reach for a solvent or start repainting a rental wall as a last-minute cleaning shortcut.

  • Collect grit before a damp wipe. Choose the laminate, vinyl or parquet guide that matches the floor. Work towards the door and leave the boards dry. Do the entrance again after the final boxes leave.

Windows & air vents

Let the light in. Leave the ventilation settings where they belong.

0 of 2 done
  • If required for your home

Follow the window guide for glass, frames and sills. Match the required surfaces to your handover list and the weather. HOAS specifies inside-only washing in freezing weather. Unsafe outside access is a reason to arrange help, not improvise a ladder.

  • Clean reachable visible dust without changing the vent's setting. Keep unfamiliar fixed parts in place. Arrange guidance from maintenance if the handover list asks for work that needs disassembly.

Sauna, balcony & storage

Check the extra spaces that came with the home.

0 of 3 done
  • If required for your home

Use the sauna guide for wood, benches, door and floor. Do the wood job separately from bathroom descaling. Rinse as appropriate and give the surfaces time to dry.

  • If required for your home

Take your belongings out, collect loose dirt and clean the required surfaces safely. Respect the weather and the building's rules. Arrange any removal of your own installed fixtures separately.

  • If required for your home

Check the unit, bicycle area and any allocated storage. Remove your belongings and ordinary rubbish. Arrange reuse, a suitable collection point or bulky-waste transport before key return. The bin room is not an overflow wardrobe.

The last walk-through

A few open doors, a few photos, then the keys.

0 of 4 done
  • Walk kitchen, bathroom, rooms and extra spaces in that order. Open each cupboard, look inside the required appliances and compare with any inspection requests. A tick means you checked the job, not that you hope somebody else did.

  • Take out the last rubbish and cleaning kit. Collect grit from the final trips in and out, then leave the floor dry. Keep safe access clear until everybody has left.

  • Take clear room and detail photos for your own records. Report leaks, damage and any agreed remaining work. Photos help document the condition; they do not replace finishing the clean or arranging the handover.

  • Confirm where and when keys go, including storage, shared-space and spare keys. Arrange a joint final inspection if possible. Then hand over the home and let the next chapter begin.

Finnish handover instructions

One home, one handover list.

Use your own tenancy’s instructions once, then keep them beside this checklist. These Finnish providers are useful examples, not one universal set of rules.

Heka

Its list includes appliance interiors, the grease filter, windows as weather permits, sauna where present and belongings in storage areas. Confirm the keys and appliance power/door arrangements in your own handover instructions.

HOAS

For shared flats, plan the common-area clean with flatmates and pass on pre-inspection requests. Its checklist includes oven, fridge, grease filter and drain; in freezing weather, wash only the inside windows.

Espoon Asunnot

Empty the apartment and allocated storage, clean the required extra spaces and arrange removal of your own belongings. Its moving-out page links to its cleaning instructions and explains key return.

The mysterious box in storage is also moving.

Check your storage unit and any shared spots for belongings. Offer usable furniture for reuse, or arrange a suitable collection point or transport. HSY says bulky items need the building manager’s permission before being left in a property’s waste room. Keep leftover chemicals labelled and use the right disposal route.

Novah / Service scope

Booking a clean? Match the jobs before you book.

A landlord’s list describes the handover. A cleaning booking describes the work you have purchased. Put them side by side so the awkward surprise stays out of moving day.

04 / The finishing touch

The last lap. Then you can go.

Use your tenancy’s handover list for the finish. Cleaning and normal wear are different things; a clean home does not have to look newly built. A deposit also depends on the tenancy’s other obligations.

  • Required rooms and appliances checked.
  • Belongings and rubbish removed.
  • Defects reported and handover records kept.
  • Every required key returned on time.
KKV · rental deposits and normal wear (opens in a new tab)

A few moving-day questions.

Do I have to do every job here?

Your own handover instructions decide the required tasks and spaces. This is a useful working checklist, not a replacement tenancy contract. Use “Not needed” for the optional features your home or instructions do not include.

What if I only have a few hours left?

Start the priority jobs: required appliance interiors, cupboards, the accessible drain and the final floors. That order helps you organise the work; it does not remove the other required jobs. If time will not cover them, arrange help or agree a plan before key return.

Can I keep my ticks when I close the page?

Yes, when browser storage is available. Ticks stay in this browser and carry between English and Finnish. Private browsing, clearing site data or another device can mean starting again. The printable checklist also works as a paper backup.

Does booking Novah include every landlord task?

Compare the service scope before booking. Standard cleaning covers cupboards, appliance exteriors and bathroom work. Oven and fridge/freezer interiors, windows, sauna and balcony are extras. The grease filter, moving heavy appliances and unblocking pipes need a separate arrangement.

Does a finished checklist guarantee my deposit?

No. KKV distinguishes cleaning shortcomings, damage and normal wear, and a deposit can cover other tenancy obligations. Keep the handover records and discuss a disputed deduction with the landlord. The source below explains the boundary.
