Finland’s household tax credit rises to 40%
Good news for your cleaning bills. The higher credit covers eligible payments from the start of 2026, including the ones you have already made.

Three numbers. One welcome change.
- of eligible labour, including VAT
- 40%
- Previously 35%
- maximum per person, per year
- €2,100
- Previously €1,600
- personal liability, per year
- €150
- Unchanged · deducted once a year
For ordinary eligible work paid to a company in 2026–2027. Your expenses, remaining allowance and taxes payable determine the credit you can use.
A little less tax.
A little more breathing room.
Finland’s household tax credit has risen from 35% to 40% of eligible labour bought from a company. The annual maximum is now €2,100 per person. And the nice bit? Qualifying bills paid earlier in 2026 count too. No need to wish you had waited to book the cleaner.
Yes, this includes bills you already paid
Vero’s announcement on 13 October confirms the increase for 2026 and 2027, with retrospective effect from 1 January 2026. The payment year matters: a qualifying cleaning invoice paid in February 2026 is covered too.
The €150 annual personal liability stays the same. Spouses can use up to €4,200 between them, subject to their individual limits and taxes. Each spouse using the credit has their own personal liability. Cleaning and other ordinary qualifying work share the annual allowance; it is not a separate pot for every service.
What does that mean in actual euros?
Imagine €2,400 of eligible cleaning labour paid during the year. That is an illustrative annual amount, not a Novah quote. Assuming one claimant, no other qualifying expenses and enough tax payable, here is the difference.
Annual eligible labour
€2,400
- Under the previous rules
- €690
- €2,400 × 35% − €150
- Under the updated rules
- €810
- €2,400 × 40% − €150
more tax credit
€120
Both calculations subtract the annual personal liability and apply the relevant maximum. Your invoice total stays the same.
Your next step depends on what you have already done
You do not need to send the same bill twice. Vero explains how the higher credit is applied (opens in a new tab) and how to report your expenses in MyTax (opens in a new tab).
Already reported the expenses?
Vero will apply the new rules automatically to your pre-completed tax return in spring 2027. Check the amounts then. Do not report the same expenses again.
Want the benefit this year?
Request a new tax card in MyTax. If the expenses are already reported, Vero says a small change to your income estimate, even €1, triggers the recalculation. Do not duplicate the expenses.
Haven’t reported them yet?
Add the qualifying expenses when requesting a new tax card, or report them on your tax return. Keep the business ID, order or contract date, invoice total, eligible labour amount and payment details handy.
The small print, without the small font
The credit applies to eligible labour, including its VAT. Supplies, materials and travel costs do not qualify. Use the labour amount itemised on your invoice. If it is missing, ask the company to separate it.
Cleaning in your own or rented home can qualify. The company must be in the prepayment register, and the other conditions must be met. Certain subsidies or service vouchers can prevent a claim for the same work. Check Vero’s eligibility conditions (opens in a new tab).
You still pay the full cleaning bill. The credit reduces tax payable; it is not a discount at checkout or a guaranteed cash refund. If you cannot use it against your taxes, an eligible amount may transfer to your spouse. Unused credit does not roll into next year.
